On Tuesday Apple announced the addition of iWeb, it’s new consumer-oriented web-authoring program. Basically iWeb is a part of the (excellent) iLife package, of which I am a big fan. It allows users to drag & drop content into a web page, setup a blog, podcast etc etc.
From a consumer’s point of view it’s cool, a handy way to let others know what you’re up to in life. From a professional design point of view it’s not so good. Why? Well, check out the urls for a start! For some reason iWeb generates a url to the effect of http://web.mac.com/username/iWeb/FB57BAD6-C937-47E9-A288-3E920FCD893A/Welcome.html … which isn’t the easiest to remember!
Aside from that, iWeb is pretty good for home use. The code it produces is clean CSS with no tables in sight. And if this kind of thing really catches on, then it will create more interest in the blogosphere and ultimately benefit us all.
Enough of my randomness … if you have any iWeb sites that you’d like to share drop them in a comment. ![]()

I’ve been using GoLive for the last few years, and I’ll probably keep using it for my main web page but I have no problem switching over to iWeb for my blog at web.mac.com/bigcrow/iWeb/Site
It’s not perfect, but it only takes a fraction of the time I used to spend writing an entry, adding a photo or two, and then uploading. It’s actually more flexible, in terms of templates, than most people realize. I’m hoping they work on the bloated files issue, and better archiving (by keywords.)

Redirect: right from godaddy.com, where I purchased the domain name. Extremely easy to do.
