Jeremy Shoemaker posted an interesting and useful synopsis on the top 5 ways he thinks you should generate revenue from your sites. Here’s his list, starting from the most profitable and stable:
- Subscriptions: paid access to member-only areas and content
- Donations: encouraging readers to sponsor you like Jason Kottke
- Affiliates: generating revenue with CJ, Shareasale, AzoogleAds et al
- Ecommerce: selling product online
- Contextual Ads: Google AdSense / Chitika / AdGenta
Meanwhile, Aaron Wall is letting off some steam because of some rather gready charities. He builds them a website, they pay nothing. Thingis, he has been getting hassle from some of the beneficiaries on how long it will take for him to develop their free website. The cheek of it!
